FleetCifu Case Study: How Dashcam Evidence Reversed a Collision Ruling

FleetCifu customer story, Grand Cayman, October 2026

The situation

A cleaning company in our Grand Cayman pilot fleet had one of its vans hit at a T-junction in East End in late October 2026. The van was turning right and had slowed from about 22 mph to about 11 mph when an SUV coming along the cross road hit it.

The police officer at the scene first ruled that the van driver was at fault. If that ruling had stood, the company and its driver would have carried the blame for the collision.

What FleetCifu captured

The van was fitted with the CIFU AI Dashcam and tracked by FleetCifu. From that data, the company put together a FleetCifu accident pack containing:

  • Dashcam video of the road ahead, showing the approach, the turn and the moment the SUV made contact.
  • A GPS track with speeds in mph, showing the van slowing steadily from about 22 mph to about 11 mph through the turn and stopping within seconds of the collision.
  • Timestamps to the second, so the video and GPS data line up.
  • A collision sketch showing the junction, the van's path and where the impact happened.

The company sent the pack to the officer's inspector.

What the AI saw

  • Crash detected automatically. FleetCifu's in-vehicle sensor registered the impact on its own, within about a second of contact. Nobody had to press a button.
  • Alert in seconds. FleetCifu raised a critical crash alert seconds after the collision.
  • Both cameras rolling. The CIFU AI Dashcam was recording the road ahead and the cab throughout. Its on-screen clock lines the video up with GPS positions logged about once a second.
  • No warnings in the lead-up. The dashcam's forward-collision and following-distance warnings were switched on that day, and neither went off in the 45 minutes before the impact.
  • Footage without a site visit. The road and cab video was pulled remotely from the van within about an hour, without anyone going to the vehicle.

The outcome

After reviewing the pack, the inspector reopened the case. The original ruling was reversed and the case was resolved 100% in the company's favour, with the other driver found at fault.

The dashcam saved a driver's job

The evidence protected the driver too. She already had prior incidents on record, and the officer's first ruling went against her. With that history, the ruling could have cost the driver her job and cost the company thousands. The footage changed that: the police reopened the case and it was resolved 100% in the company's favour.

In the owner's words

"Without the dashcam, it would have been virtually impossible to get that ruling changed."

What this means for your fleet

When a collision happens, it often comes down to one driver's word against another's. FleetCifu gives you clear, time-stamped evidence (video, GPS speed and location, and a collision sketch) in one pack you can hand straight to the police or anyone else who needs it. That helps protect your drivers and your business when the facts are on their side.

The evidence pack is laid out to match the accident questions on a standard insurer claim form, and gives police the key evidence for a collision: timestamped video, GPS speed and location, and a scene sketch, with the original files kept unaltered. It was the pack that led the inspector to reopen this case.

Within seconds of a crash, the fleet manager gets a WhatsApp alert linking to a crash page, and footage can be pulled remotely from the vehicle, with no site visit needed.
